Flat Measurements: What to Know About Online Thrifting

Often when buying vintage clothing online you are supplied with "Flat" measurements.

If the material has elastic, this will also mean 1/2 of an unstressed waist or such.

Meaning, whatever your own measurements are, cut each one in half and you will be able to judge a fit better. If you see a blouse or dress you like, and you wear a size 38 bra, just know that you need roughly 20 inches from pit to pit.

Always consider fabric type.

Especially with vintage as much of it has no spandex stretchy give or as a knit it can easily get stretched out.

Ask before you buy!!

Elastic & synthetics can be destroyed with heat, age, or just overuse.

Often dry clean only items are in the best condition because they meet less cleanings AND they avoid the heat of a vintage dryer.... they got really hot!

I remember burning my hands opening dryer we had has kids & I'm relatively young.
